Choosing an industrial blower is not about picking the biggest motor. A blower that is wrongly sized wastes power, runs noisy and wears out early. Before you request a quote, collect the five facts below and your supplier can recommend the right unit the first time.
1. Airflow (CFM or m³/hr)
This is the volume of air the system must move. For ventilation it comes from the room volume and the air changes per hour required. For process or dust extraction it comes from the capture velocity at every pick-up point added together, plus a margin for leakage.
2. Static pressure
Static pressure (in mm of water gauge) is the resistance the blower must overcome: ducting length, bends, dampers, filters and the process itself. Airflow and pressure together define the duty point on the fan curve. Underestimating pressure is the most common reason a new blower "does not deliver".
3. Air temperature and gas type
Hot gases, moisture, oil mist or corrosive fumes change the choice of impeller material, bearings and shaft cooling. Mild steel suits normal air, while stainless steel or coated impellers are better for corrosive or humid service.
4. Dust or particulate content
Clean air can use a high-efficiency backward-curved impeller. Dusty or sticky material needs a radial or open-blade impeller that resists build-up. In dust collection systems, place the blower on the clean side of the filter whenever possible.
5. Drive arrangement and space
Direct-drive units are compact and low maintenance; belt-driven units let you fine-tune speed and handle higher power. Share the available space, the inlet and outlet direction and the electrical supply with your supplier.
